Day 33 : The building stones of Staffordshire moves into the Lower Triassic rocks above the Variscan unconformity.  This is a sandy member of the Kidderminster Formation, a rock formerly known as the Bunter Sandstone.  These red-brown sandstones are often quite poorly cemented so were only quarried for local use.  This sample is from Church Hill in Kinver and probably used to build the local church.
