Rock 365 : Day 62 : Graded Conglomeratic Cross Beds #365photos

Day 62 : A visit to Park Hall Country Park in Stoke-on-Trent today and a chance to photograph the Lower Triassic rocks.  Officially this is the Kidderminster formation but is much more commonly known as the Bunter Pebble Beds.  Here are some graded large scale cross beds.

Day 59 : I spent the day at RHS Wisley photographing butterflies and flowers so not much opportunity for a rock photo.  Here is a rock sculpture in the gardens, probably travertine. Fishing Bear by John Kessler.

Day 58 : I showed a polished sample of Larvikite on Day 6 from a Cardiff bank.  This is an unpolished sample collected from its native Norway. The grey feldspars show their perthitic lamellae and the black minerals are hornblende.

Day 56 : back to the Florence Mine in Cumbria for another haematite sample, this time with some pink stained calcite crystals.

Day 55 : These are halite hopper crystals.  Their shape is due to the higher electrical force concentrations at the edges cause the crystals to grow faster here than at the centre of the faces.  These are probably gypsum pseudomorphs after halite. From southern Spain.
