Rock 365 : Day 38 : Ecton Limestone #365photos
Day 38 : The Ecton Limestone shows many characteristics of clastic sediments. There are load casts and graded bedding at the base of the bed. Cross stratification can also just be made out in the rest of the sample. This limestone is turbiditic, deposited in the deeper waters of the Widmerpool Gulf rather than on the shallower Derbyshire Shelf. It is also one of Staffordshire's building stones with local cottages being made of the material.
